Intimate Glasgow elopements at craigmaddie muir
Craigmaddie Muir Farm sits amidst 400 acres of moorland, with a large flock of sheep and a herd of stunning Aberdeen Angus cows. After decades of farming they realised that they needed to share the amazing scenery and countryside they were lucky enough to experience everyday. With that, the idea for Craigmaddie Muir Roundhouse was born.
The Roundhouse is simply beautiful, it’s been handcrafted, designed to blend in with the surrounding woods and is a real one of a kind. There’s only one of these on the farm so it’s all yours for your elopement. You can even combine it with a minimoon, stay on a bit longer and really embrace that peace and quiet.
180 degree floor to ceiling windows allow you to enjoy those views out over the heather covered moors, and the Roundhouse is filled with natural light. Wooden decking surrounds the structure, complete with the aforementioned hot tub, BBQ, al fresco dining set up and sun loungers. The hot tub is huge, plenty big enough for the two of you. As night falls, the Silver Birches overhanging the tub are lit up, it’s an incredible sight.
ROUNDHOUSE WEDDING VENUE SCOTLAND
Outside might be rustic, but inside is bright and contemporary. This is very glam camping! There’s a huge bed – which we’ve been assured is extremely comfortable – a wood burner, a very modern and designer kitchen, plus a mega luxurious shower room. Now, this is a first for us as we don’t normally talk about toilets… but this loo has the most amazing view we’ve ever seen so definitely deserves a mention! Best of all, everything is eco friendly, so you’re looking after the planet whilst enjoying a touch of romance.
The Roundhouse is tucked away, accessed by its own private pathway. The owners, Gordon and Susie, live nearby. Close enough for if you need anything, or want to know the best walking routes, but otherwise they will leave you in peace to enjoy the birdsong and seclusion.
Scottish moorland elopement
The Roundhouse backs onto the gorgeous Craigmaddie moorland, keep an eye out for the Buzzards, Kestrels and Sparrowhawks.. Across the moors you’ll catch glimpses of Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps. On a clear day you might even be able to spot the Isle of Arran’s Goatfell! It’s hard to believe you’re actually just ten miles from Glasgow.
The moors are the perfect place for a ceremony, they’re super easy to wander around and pick your favourite spot. We can also head up and explore the Auld Wives Lifts in the fields, standing stones that are said to have mythical, magical properties. The three huge rocks are covered in graffiti dating back to the 18th century as well as carved with faces. It’s a mystical place. According to folklore, three witches from Baldernock, Strathblane and Campsie carried the stones up to their resting place. The Baldernock witch tossed hers on top of the other two proving she could carry the greatest burden.
If legends and witchcraft aren’t your bag then you can take a short drive over to Loch Lomond and explore the shores, there are endless opportunities for amazing explorations round there.
