LOCH LOMOND WATERFRONT WEDDING

When you’re planning a wee Scottish wedding and you’re offered the use of the most iconic Scottish pub’s back garden…well, it’d be rude to say no!

Callum and Ian live in England, but Loch Lomond is a place that is very close to both their hearts. They have a favourite cosy cottage on the West Highland Way and spend a lot of time in the area. When they got engaged they knew there was only one place they wanted to tie the knot.

West Highland Way wedding

While they were in the midst of planning their day, Callum’s mum was catching up with a good friend, Lucy. She mentioned that Callum and Ian were planning a Loch Lomond wedding and Lucy – who just happens to run Balmaha’s The Oak Tree Inn – offered the use of their land. Land that had just been newly landscaped in honour of Lucy’s daughter’s wedding. Perfect. Safe to say we all jumped at the chance!

For those who don’t know, The Oak Tree Inn is legendary in Scotland (and not just for their macaroni cheese, which is pretty amazing). You’ll find it at the foot of Conic Hill on the West Highland Way, not too far from Loch Lomond. We highly recommend popping in for some sustenance if you’re ever doing the walk (treat yourself to all the macaroni cheese if you’re doing the full 154 km!) or are just mooching around the area.

Micro wedding at Loch Lomond

We couldn’t have planned this any better – the sun was shining, the sky was so blue and Callum and Ian had the most beautiful ceremony on a gorgeous bit of land.

Our highlight of the day though – apart from Mabel, the very cute doggy ringbearer – was Ian and Callum’s wedding car. Now, wedding cars are not normally that cool. But Ian is obsessed with VW Beetles, and they arrived in a stretch Beetle which has to be the coolest wedding car we have ever seen. A stretch Beetle?! So good!

They gathered their closest friends and family around them for their super lovely ceremony and then it was time for a bit of a wander while everyone else relaxed and enjoyed a pint. We have to say, that plot behind the Oak Tree Inn is pretty cool. There’s a wee junkyard going on back there and there was a fab old vintage bus just lying around. Not something you see everyday. Of course, Ian and Callum had to have some photos with it, it was ace! We made use of the polyhouse greenhouse tunnel too, gotta love a greenhouse picture. The Oak Tree Inn is the place that just keeps on giving.

Ian and Callum enjoyed a pint in the Inn before heading back to their wee cottage for their Scottish Wild Picnic. A feast! Mabel watched on with envy as Ian and Callum tucked in.

Scottish pub elopement, West Highland Way

So there you have it, a micro wedding at a pub. Proof that in Scotland you can indeed get married anywhere you like. We all love a ruined castle, a deserted loch shore or a magical woodland but sometimes you just cannot beat a good old pub.
