Oh have we got a feast for your eyes today, just look at those incredible autumnal colours. Amazing. Paige and James are pretty lovely to look at too eh!
This was an epic elopement, beginning with a ceremony viewed all over the world and ending with a fabulous picnic in a private walled garden. The weather even played ball too, which is almost unheard of in Scotland in October. What more could you ask for.
Elopement at Ardoch Lodge, Calendar
The initial plan for the day was to head down to Loch Lubnaig and get married on the lochside. However, Paige and James are from Australia and really wanted their friends and family from Australia and all over the world to be able to tune in to the ceremony. We quickly realised that any kind of internet connection down by the loch, out in the wilderness, wouldn’t be reliable so the decision was made to stay up by Ardoch Lodge and hold the wee ceremony in the garden.
Originally Paige and James had planned to surprise their loved ones, asking them to tune in for a “Zoom dinner” which is a regular occurrence. Except this time, everyone would log in and see them all dolled up and ready to get married. Another swift realisation followed, due to the time difference it would be pretty late in Aus and people might just not bother. So Paige and James spilled the beans a few days earlier and told everyone that it was non negotiable, they needed to be watching! In the end everyone managed to tune in and it was so lovely to see people from all over the world watching a Scottish elopement.
Luckily Ardoch Lodge and its grounds are stunning, so it was no bad thing that the ceremony had moved up there. It was just Paige, James and their adorable little dog Finnegan, who looked very dapper in his wee tux and bow tie!
The ceremony, led by our wonderful Humanist Claire, was a fab mix of heartfelt emotion and laughter. James, the little prankster, pulled out a notebook to read his vows and there, scrawled on the back, was “Help Me!”. That got a giggle from Paige and a laugh from everyone watching.

Ceremony finished, Zoom congratulations done, it was time for some photos down by the loch. Finnegan was in his element, pottering around while Paige and James got a bit romantic in front of the camera. We properly lucked out with the weather, it was amazing for late October. Paige was even in bare arms, can you believe it!
The reds, golds and deep browns of the trees looked incredible. We couldn’t stop exclaiming over how good everywhere looked. On the way back up to the lodge we decided to explore a single track we found, and came upon the most perfect wee road. A sea of red and orange leaves, surrounded by tall trees and green moss. It was a photographer’s dream!
Ardoch Lodge has its own private Walled Garden, which was where the fab Jean and Shirley from Scottish Wild Picnics had set up the most fabulous feast for Paige and James. It all looked so delicious, especially the meringue cake. Even Finnegan had a few treats to tuck into which he was very pleased about. He’d been a superstar all day and, got to confess, the whole team had fallen in love with him!
