Stunning Outdoor Wedding Venue Scotland - Marlene and Stephen
Here at Wee Wild Weddings we are suckers for a good love story. And there was a collective “aaahhhhhhhhhh!” from the team when we found out how Marlene and Stephen had met. They were teenage sweethearts who lost touch and recently found each other again. They weren’t waiting around this time and soon got in touch with us to arrange their amazing outdoor elopement at an awesome outdoor wedding venue in Scotland.
Like Scotland, Wales is pretty well known for its castles and epic mountains. So it was no surprise when this Welsh pair decided to hold their ceremony in the shadows of Kilchurn Castle at the side of Loch Awe. Surrounded by hills, mountains and forests you couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop to their elopement.

It was just the two of them, plus the WWW gang, and we absolutely loved hanging out with Marlene and Steve. They are amazing and so, so funny. We were all in hysterics most of the day.
They got ready together at a beautiful riverside cottage, on the banks of the River Orchy. Such a great spot. The day was beautifully sunny, but with a bit of December chill in the air. No rain though which we were all over the moon about!
We even managed to arrange a wee surprise for the lovely Marlene. She was a little obsessed with Highland cows, of which there are many around the castle. Little did she know though, there was a baby Highland. Super, super cute! She was over the moon when we took her that way to the ceremony. And, of course, we had to stop for some photos with the herd.
The ceremony was fab, with moody dramatic skies and that ruined castle in the background. They threw their oathing stone into the loch which was a lovely touch. It’s an old Scottish tradition. The couple say their vows, with their hands touching the stone. It’s taken from the ancient Celtic custom of ‘setting an oath in stone’. An oath taken near water was said to be even more binding.

After the ceremony Stephen couldn’t quite believe that they were married. He kept repeating “We’ve done it! We’ve done it!”. He also gave us our best review ever…
“This is exactly what we wanted. No fuss, just us.”

We took some cracking photos down by the castle, before making our way back to the cottage for a few photos down by the River Orchy.
It goes without saying, but of course, we’ll rave about it anyway. Scottish Wild Picnics had set up the best picnic in the cottage garden. A fabulous feast. Before they tucked in Marlene sent Steve to grab a bottle of fizz, I’m not sure she expected him to proceed to shake it up and spray it everywhere though. Her face was a picture! Hilarious!
We try not to have favourite WWW couples, we love and adore each and every one of you. However, if we did have a secret preference then Marlene and Steve would be right up there! We love this couple!
