Elopement Weddings Scotland - Tying the Tartan Knot

Andy & Sarah eloped in secret to a remote Scottish Highlands Boutique hotel surrounded by lochs and mountains!

"Omigoodness! There may even be tears!! The photos are incredible - we love them so much! Thank you for keeping our little secret and creating the best day ever!!!! You literally are the best team! - Lots of love, Mr & Mrs McNeill"

Check out Sarah and Andy’s wedding. These two are our first couple to have actually done it in secret, a proper elopement! They are the cutest couple and were so excited to be getting married without anyone knowing.

We are big fans of Monachyle Mhor, a boutique hotel at the foot of the Perthshire mountains. It’s got everything you need for a perfect elopement – those mountains, the loch and cute wee farmhouse rooms for morning prep.

Andy was trying to stay super chill, just hanging outside reading his book while Sarah got ready. He looked fab in his kilt and admitted he’d got ready really early as he had no idea what to do with himself!

After a really sweet first look we headed down to the lochside, led by a piper. Andy and Sarah just couldn’t stop smiling, especially when we bumped into the Monachyle Mhor donkeys, always a pleasure to see those guys!

The ceremony was super cute, they both kept giggling and laughing throughout. We loved the little notecards with their vows on, such a nice touch. They’d included so many Scottish traditions, including some we’d not seen before. After the Handfasting with tartan ribbons they threw a small rock into the loch together. Known as the Oathing Stone they’d written their names on it and had held it in their hands whilst saying their vows. After they’d thrown it into the loch tradition says that their vows are now set in stone.

Andy had thrown the Oathing Stone so it was down to Sarah to pop open the fizz! After a few sips, and a confetti throw (don’t judge me here, it’s tough to throw confetti and hold a camera ok!) it was time to take some pictures of the two of them.

The tide was out and we were able to make our way out to a tiny, rocky island. It’s so rare to get a chance to wander out here so we were super lucky. As we walked back up to Monachyle Mhor and their wedding picnic we could hear faint music. Scottish Wild Picnics had brought along a record player and Sarah and Andy were able to have a first dance. What a moment!

Take a look at our highlights from Sarah and Andy’s day, and don’t forget to watch the beautiful video by StrangeWorx Wedding Films. We loved their secret Scottish elopement!
