Elopement Photographer Scotland - Q&A with Sarah of Joy Story
Joy Story was founded in 2012 to stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. Oh no wait, that’s Buffy.
Hey, I’m Sarah aka Joy Story, the snapper of the Wee Wild Weddings gang! I believe in positivity, karma, and confetti. I want to bring as much happiness to our lives and yours, and trust that it will ripple forward. If you’re looking for an elopement photographer Scotland, I’m your gal, you can check out more of my work here!
What photography is included in the package? Are there any photography add ons you can choose?
There are up to 3 hours coverage included in the basic package. That includes yours truly on the day for up to 3 hours, your digital files, around 150+, in an online gallery and travel up to 60 miles from Glasgow. If you fancy exploring a bit, you can always add on another hour and we can go on an adventure! Let’s face it – Scotland was made for exploring and we can get some epic backdrops for your portraits if we branch out a little. Additional hours can be added on at £325 per hour. Plus you get my company and dazzling repartee for longer, win win!
I also looove to make wedding albums and feel that they are the best way to experience your wedding images. There’s nothing quite like seeing them in print, touching and feeling them and really being transported back to the memories you made without Facebook notifications pinging in the background! So albums are a highly recommended optional add on too.
Now that you’ve worked at lots of elopements & micro weddings What are the benefits of a Wee Wild Wedding for your photos?
Time is on your side! Sometimes the biggest stress on a wedding day can be trying to fit everything in and please people at the same time. Less people = less stress for sure! You no longer have to have a formals list a mile long because Aunt Betty will take offence if she’s not in at least 3 photos.
You can take your time doing everything. Get ready together and really breathe the day in, it doesn’t matter if the ceremony runs a little late (sorry Claire!) because there’s no chef with 100 chicken dinners who needs you to be seated at a certain time.
You can really go with the flow the whole day and experience it in real time instead of it going by in a blur. And your images will reflect this, you’ll see that you’re both fully present in the moments – and beaming from ear to ear as you take it all in.
As a couple, what other things should you think about in terms of photography that you don’t normally for weddings – timings, light, location, logistics etc?
The benefit of a Wee Wild Wedding is that you’re probably not hemmed in to the ceremony being in a certain location and facing a certain way. Especially if the ceremony is outside, we can see what the light is like on the day and set up wherever will look best/most epic for the weather!
The other benefit of a Wee Wild Wedding is that you literally don’t need to consider anything – we got you! Between your planner, photographer, florist, celebrant, and caterer we’ll take care of everything for you, no stress.
What are the some of the favourite details you’ve seen at micro weddings so far?
Just because it’s micro doesn’t mean it can’t be epic! I’ve loved that couples have still gone for lush florals and delicious looking food platters that are styled beautifully. Entrusting suppliers to deliver something small but wow. And they have! This is the beauty of small wedding businesses, they really care about making your wedding – no matter the size – amazing!
Any tips for couples planning a micro wedding?
Book us! 😀 My top tip would be – stop overthinking it and just do it! You wanna be married, let’s get you married and have a hell of an awesome time while we’re doing it. You can always throw a reception party at a later date if you want to ivite the whole gang along to something. You’ll never regret being spontaneous and going for it. Plus then you get to do more of what you want to do and less of what you “should” do (according to everyone else).
Have you noticed any micro wedding trends – colours, locations, set up options etc?
JOY – does that count as a trend? Every single one of my couple who have had an elopement or micro wedding have all been so freaking happy. All of them have said it’s been better than they imagined and they’re so glad they went for it.
I’ve been loving the trend of getting married in your own back garden, how special?! And it doesn’t matter if you think your garden isn’t wedding worthy, it’s yours. Even if it’s a jungle it’ll be your wedding jungle – I love it.
What opportunities does a micro wedding give that a normal wedding doesn’t?
The opportunity to do whatever the heck you want! Don’t wanna wear a “wedding” outfit? Don’t! Don’t wanna wear heels? Don’t! I had one bride who didn’t even bother putting on her wedding shoes and got married in her Birkenstocks – yass! The opportunity to not have to impress your whole family & friends circle is definitely appealing! Also the opportunity not to have to pay for 100+ meals, very appealing indeed 😉
