The Wee Wild team were back in Callendar for Mhairi and David’s Loch Venachar Wedding and you know how much we love a trip to Callendar. Any excuse to pop into Mhor Bread, the best bakery in the world. It’s a fact.
Loch Venachar is magical. There’s no other word for it. It has to be one of the most quintessentially Scottish places we’ve held a wedding. A freshwater loch with a dramatic mountain backdrop, pure Scotland. The Trossachs National Park is just stunning and we love it whenever we get chance to plan an elopement or micro wedding there.
Mhairi and David were staying at Loch Venachar Lodges, luxurious log cabins right next to the water. Each lodge has its own private bit of the loch and lochside, complete with jetty. It was idyllic. They’d rented one of the biggest cabins, just for the two of them, which meant that their family could come and join them for the day. There was plenty of space for their loved ones as well as the Wee Wild Weddings crew. We all got to hang out there that morning as Mhairi and David got ready together.
Beautiful Lochside Wedding Ceremony
There wasn’t far to go for the ceremony, just a wee walk down the wooden steps and we were on the private beach. It was deserted, not a soul in sight (apart from a couple of friendly paddle boarders who gave us a wave as they floated past!)
The weather was perfect, not too chilly and just enough clouds to create a bit of drama in the sky. You need a bit of a dramatic vista when you’re surrounded by mountains!
Their ceremony was beautiful, really intimate and personal. Although their super cute wee flowergirl totally stole the show when she toddled over with their wedding rings. No one minded, she was utterly adorable! Claire The Humanist (her official title) did a sterling job as per usual.
Trossachs Elopement
Once Mhairi and David were married it was time for confetti on the jetty! I couldn’t stop saying it, I’m a sucker for a good rhyme! Jetties are now my new favourite place for confetti. Beautiful backdrop plus a slight element of danger (for me, not the couple!) as I walk backwards along a narrow walkway over water. Life on the edge I tell you!
We headed back up to the lodge for drinks and some family photos out on the decking, those mountains made the best backdrop. Mhairi and David went back down to the beach for a few portraits – we didn’t need to go far, the jetty and lochside were the perfect spots to hang out and take some pictures.
Then it was time to see what delights Scottish Wild Picnics had put together for everyone. They had worked their magic and set up a big old bell tent next to the cabin. There was room for everyone to snuggle up inside and enjoy a feast.
Mhairi and David’s wedding was so relaxed and chilled out. Just what they’d wanted. They’ve also reminded me to tell everyone to print their photos! Get your wedding pictures up on the wall! Mhairi and David have gone all out and ordered three massive prints and they look amazing. Plus, prints make excellent Christmas presents…just saying!
